Science + fiction, 2015
Science+fiction. About the relationship between imagination and reality is a two person exhibition by Alexandra Knie and Kathrin Graf, which leaves the classical boundaries of art and seeks points of reference in the textile, design and science. With their individual approaches, they adapt and transform scientific modes of representation, combine real scientific phenomena with fictional speculations, and play through a possible spectrum of the real. Alexandra’s major artistic interest lies in the discrepancy between the artisanal production process and the resulting representation of complex organizational structures from microbiology and virology. The artist primarily draws on hand and machine embroidery, silkscreen and drawings to visualize multiple viral formations on a micro and macro scale.
