Contaminouflage, 2021 | Alexandra Knie & Andreas Stang | coat: acrylic and machine embroidery on raw cotton, laces, hand sewing

Contaminouflage, 2021

This piece is the result of an intense collaboration with fashion designer Andreas Stang (Germany) and was shown at the Manufactum Staatspreis NRW finalist exhibition at the Museum für Kunst und Kultur in Dortmund. The multi-part, wearable object is a fusion of art and fashion and is to be understood as a mesocosmic link between the inner world and the cosmos, as well as a metaphor for the Corona pandemic. People adapt their behaviour to viruses, while viruses adapt to people through mutations. The result is a camouflage effect that oscillates between terms of micro and macro.
